What We Do
Educational:
Goodness & Mercy International seeks to help families and guardians of children living in poverty recognize the exceptional capabilities and resources that lie within their children. We work with communities to get to know their needs so that we can better help them. To help these children realize their full potential, Goodness & Mercy International is dedicated to ensuring that they go to school, stay in school and acquire basic skills of literacy, mathematics, life skills and critical thinking in a supportive setting by providing them with school supplies and paying for their school fees (printing fee, PTA fee, textbook loan fees etc.). We also see a future where social and financial obstacles of families living in poverty are taken care of, for them to keep their children and wards in school. When a parent loses a job, a rent payment is missed, or medical bills ravage an already tenuous family budget, hundreds of thousands of families face not only food shortages but defaulting on paying their wards’ school fees or providing their educational materials. Academic programs like after-school programs and taking care of other bills, fills a critical need and helps families living in poverty direct limited resources to other areas in their lives. New clothes, sandals, sneakers, socks, backpack, and school supplies mean children can eliminate lagging performance and resume their schooling with pride.
Food Security:
Goodness & Mercy International aims to create lasting changes in the lives of children living in poverty by advancing equitable living conditions. We see a future where kids have access to healthy meals at school every day so that they come to school ready and prepared to learn rather than having to worry about what they are going to eat when they go home (when the safety net of access to healthy meals is not readily available to them). The right to food is a human right according to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) thus, Goodness & Mercy International will focus on students who come from poor households often lacking the resources for food and provide them with nourishing meals to improve their health, reduce the financial burdens on their guardians, and stimulate their curiosity and desire to learn. Rather than feeling the stress of food insecurity, kids will just be able to live free from fear of hunger. This will improve their health, reduce the financial burdens on their guardians and stimulate their curiosity and desire to learn.
Faith in Action:
Goodness & Mercy International also seeks to empower underprivileged children by working with the local church and community leaders to enrich their lives by nurturing them with godly values; providing them with spiritual and moral support; coordinating family support groups; and providing practical life solutions that will enhance the quality of their lives and give them the tools they need to succeed in life.
Goodness & Mercy International seeks to help children from poor backgrounds build their social competence, become self-reliant and confident. Christ based teachings can have a profound influence on these children’s development and reinforce protective influences and promote resilience. Christian beliefs, practices and resources provided by the local church, and Christian leaders we partner with, can instill hope, give meaning to difficult and painful experiences, and provide emotional, physical and spiritual support to these children. These children will then have more confidence to persevere when they face challenges in life.
In all that we do, we aim to lay a solid foundation of knowledge for the future of children living in poverty for them to reach their full potential, lead better lives, and inspire future generations without compromise to the Word of God.
